Andreas Wigger was born in 1956 in Switzerland. He holds a MA in Theology and a MSc in Development Management.
Since 1985, he has worked as a Delegate for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). He was posted in Israel and the occupied / autonomous Palestinian territories, in Iraq, Yemen, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and has visited prisoners of war, civilian internees and other persons deprived of freedom in most of the countries in the Middle East, North Africa and South East Asia. He has also carried out and supervised Protection activities of civilians, including restoring family links and the search for missing persons in the Middle East, North Africa, Europe and South Asia. Since 2008, he is Head of Central Tracing Agency and Protection Division at the ICRC Headquarters in Geneva.
