Grillmeier

Franziska Grillmeier works as a freelance journalist for German-language and international media, including Zeit Online, Spiegel and The Guardian.

She also works on podcasts and radio features such as Memento Moria for Spotify Original and investigative work with international teams on the topic of migration and forced displacement for programmes such as ZDF Magazin Royal or Buzzfeed.

She has published the book Die Insel: Ein Bericht vom Ausnahmezustand an den Rändern Europas (Engl.: „The island: A report on the state of exception on the edges of Europe”) in spring 2023.

She studied “International Development” and “Politics of Conflict, Rights and Justice” in Vienna and London. She shuttles between Lesbos, Greece, and other border areas from where she reports.
