Hernan del Valle has worked in the field of humanitarian aid for the past 15 years. Before becoming Head of Humanitarian Affairs, Advocacy & Communications for Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), he has worked as Humanitarian Affairs Advisor for Afghanistan, Pakistan, Congo, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, and Somalia. He also has extensive experience in management of humanitarian operations as Head of Mission in countries ranging from Colombia to Papua New Guinea. More recently, he was involved in the setup of MSF search & rescue operations for migrants in the Mediterranean Sea.

He is a lawyer, specialized in International Law and Human Rights, and holds a Masters degree in Development Studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science. He has conducted academic work in Forced Migration Studies at the University of Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, and Oxford University in the United Kingdom.
