Ms Ariane Bauer is the Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), based in Geneva, Switzerland.
Since joining the ICRC in 2008, Ms Bauer has held various operational and managerial positions in complex conflict environments, notably in Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Central African Republic, Iraq, Philippines, Democratic Republic of Congo, Chad and Kyrgyzstan.
She also held the position of Operations Coordinator for the Near and Middle East in Geneva for three years and was part of the Covid-19 taskforce.
Prior to joining the ICRC, Ms Bauer worked as country manager for Russia and Ukraine at the Swiss Organization for Facilitating Investments (SOFI), and as Private Sector Liaison Officer to the World Bank Group and other multilateral funding mechanisms in Zurich, Switzerland.
Raised in the Middle East and Switzerland, she holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, and a master’s degree in International Relations from the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland.
Ms Bauer is fluent in English, French and German, and she speaks Russian and Italian.
