Ara Badrtarkhanian is a 27 year-old Syrian, who came to Vienna as a refugee in October 2014. He is a Master student of International Development studies at the University of Vienna. Previously, he completed an undergraduate degree in economics with a focus on finance and banking at the University of Aleppo and had his degree recognized in Austria. In addition to his studies, he works as an integration coordinator at the Austrian Integration Fund (ÖIF), thereby focusing on counseling asylum seekers, subsidiary beneficiaries and other migrants in matters of integration. He recently contributed a chapter on “The external view and self-perception of Syrian refugees from the perspective of an affected refugee” to the anthology “Perspectives of the Austrian migration history”, a book that will be released in late March 2019.
