Monika M. Kalcsics is a journalist and radio producer for the Austrian public broadcaster ORF.
For more than 17 years she has reported from all over the world. Curiosity brought her to Cambodia and South Sudan, as well as Kosovo and Ukraine. Her reports have won international prizes, e.g. bronze at the New York Festival 2015 for the world’s best radio programs, for her documentary about the Syrian refugee camp Zaatari in Jordan. In 2007 she co-founded the production company name>it positive media, in Vienna, with a focus on covering underrepresented stories in countries like Ukraine and South Africa. In 2011 she was granted a fellowship at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at Oxford University, to research the relationship between aid organisations and the media in a “competitive compassion market”. From 2003-10, Monika worked periodically as emergency aid coordinator for the international relief network Caritas.
