James East is the Emergency Communications Director for World Vision International. He is a former newspaper journalist and worked on British daily newspapers before moving to Thailand in 1996 to work for the Bangkok Post. He went on to set up an independent agency, providing news to a variety of publications, including the Independent, the Hollywood Reporter and the South China Morning Post, before serving as the Thailand-based correspondent for Singapore’s Straits Times.
In 2002, James joined World Vision, overseeing communications for the Asia Pacific. He has managed communications for multiple types of disasters: earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanoes, droughts and floods as well as conflict in places like Afghanistan and Iraq. He recently moving back to his homeland in the UK with his wife and two young children.
