Based in Islamabad, Pakistan, Jannat Durrani works as a Program Manager of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Project Development for HOPE’87 Pakistan.
HOPE’87 is is an Austrian initiative cooperating closely with the Austrian Federal Chancellery and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs regarding the support of youth employment projects in Africa, Asia, Latin America as well as in Central- and Eastern Europe.
HOPE’87 has always given a special attention in designing projects that are humanitarian in nature and are implemented in disaster prone areas such as flood, earthquake or drought affected countries. Jannat Durrani works within humanitarian projects of HOPE’87 in Pakistan since 2011. She graduated in English Language and Literature from the University of Peshawar in 2005 and then has worked in the education sector. As she had the desire to work within providing relief to the effected population in times of an emergency, she started to work as a WASH reporting and documentation coordinator for Save the Children in Islamabad in 2010. Since then, she has been an active relief worker, for example serving the communities in the catastrophic floods of Pakistan in 2010 and 2011. Jannat is now working in the area of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), but along with that she is also the HOPE’87 gender specialist. Thus, she aims to contribute for Pakistan becoming a disaster resilient and a women empowered nation.
