At the 5th Humanitarian Congress Vienna Under Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Mark Lowcock inspired us all with his keynote address on the future of humanitarian aid and in particular with outlining three ways which can strengthen global efforts in the humanitarian system:
- Modernizing the humanitarian financing system
- More compliance with International Humanitarian Law
- The humantiarian system moves beyond mitigation to contribute more to solutions
The Humanitarian Congress Vienna is not meant to be a single event only, but a starting point for collaboration, work and dialogue so as to encounter the future of humanitarian aid collectively. In this respect Mr. Lowcock´s keynote address and his contributions to the panel “The Future of Humanitarian Aid” gave us food for thought.
