Haddad Mardini

Carla Haddad Mardini is chief spokesperson and head of the Public Communication Division of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). She is in charge of developing and implementing comprehensive public communication strategies that include public and media relations, digital presence and social media engagement, multi-media, print and audio-visual production. After joining the ICRC in 2001 she held several positions in the Middle East and Africa, first as an Arabic interpreter and subsequently as a delegate in the field. She was posted in Kurdistan and Baghdad in Iraq, and also in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and in Ethiopia. She has since held various posts at headquarters, first as public relations officer for Asia and the Pacific, then as deputy head of media and public relations. She holds a BA in philosophy and political science from the American University of Beirut in Lebanon, a master’s degree in comparative literature from Dartmouth College in the United States, as well as a second master’s degree in international relations focusing on international mediation and conflict resolution from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University in the United States. Carla is a Lebanese national and is fluent in Arabic, French and English.
