The Association Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund Österreichs was founded in 1927 and is one of the major providers of health, rescue and ambulance services, of disaster relief as well as of care for elderly persons and people with disabilities in Austria. Since its foundation more than ninety years ago Samaritan Austria has kept its commitments: fulltime employees and volunteers provide assistance to the elderly, injured and sick and other people in need – regardless of their ethnic origin, religion or ideology.

Samaritan Austria counts more than 345.000 members and supporters throughout Austria. Around 12.100 fulltime and volunteer staff help to fulfil the various tasks.

CARE was founded in 1945 and is today one of the largest aid organizations in the world.

CARE is currently implementing approximately 1631 projects in 111 countries to reach more than 174 million people,of which 61% are women and girls. 11.450 employees in Africa, Asia, Latin America, Eastern Europe and the Middle East work towards the vision of a world without poverty.

CARE has general consultative status to the United Nations and is politically and religiously independent. Over 97 million people benefit from CARE projects every year.

CONCORDIA Social Projects is an international aid organisation founded in 1991. All of the more than 100 projects – among them alternative care programmes, educational programmes, crisis centres, outreach work, emergency aid – take place in Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria, Kosovo and Austria to support children, young people and families in need.

As an organisation that cares for children and young people, CONCORDIA programmes focus on strengthening and respecting children ‘s rights, and support local authorities and communities in developing structures and services in order to facilitate independent and long-term development in the social and educational sectors.

CONCORDIA is operating in Ukraine’s neighbouring countries and has been able to provide support and protection for Ukrainian refugees from the very beginning, especially in Moldova. Long before international humanitarian organisations arrived, the staff and many volunteers from CONCORDIA Moldova were deployed at the border to provide humanitarian aid to the thousands who crossed the border in the first days of the war. CONCORDIA continues to offer accommodation and support for refugees in Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria and Austria.

For more than 50 years, Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe has been providing humanitarian aid where the need is greatest. We support people all over the world who have been affected by natural disasters, war and displacement and are unable to cope with these emergency situations on their own. Our projects are tailored to suit the requirements of those affected, regardless of race, religion or nationality. We aim to assist in a rapid, reliable, sustainable and efficient manner.

This is why we work in close cooperation with local partner organisations in the network of ACT Alliance, consisting of more than 130 church aid organisations, all of which are committed to the highest international standards in humanitarian aid.

Hilfswerk International is one of Austria’s leading non-profit, non-party and cross-denominational organizations with its headquarters in Vienna, Austria. It provides both long-term international development assistance as well as humanitarian aid for victims of conflicts and environmental disasters. Its particular strategic focus is on long-term capacity development of the most vulnerable population sectors, i.e. women, children and ethnic minorities, in terms of organizational and institutional development.

Hilfswerk International has been implementing emergency relief projects, humanitarian aid and sustainable development projects in Africa, Central Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, South and South East Asia and South-Eastern Europe since 1978.

HOPE’87 is an Austrian non-profit organization that cooperates closely with the Austrian Federal Chancellery and the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and Foreign Affairs in the implementation of youth employment and youth training projects in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Central and Eastern Europe. In 2023, HOPE’87 celebrates its 35th anniversary.

A special focus is on humanitarian projects in “Disaster and Post-Disaster Areas”. Existentially necessary goods as well as medicines and medical care are provided, always combined with more far-reaching measures for the rapid restoration of local infrastructure. Humanitarian aid projects are currently being implemented in Burkina Faso, Bangladesh, Pakistan and, with the support of the Austrian Development Agency (ADA), in the Republic of Moldova for Ukrainian refugees.

In 10 countries worldwide, HOPE’87 is represented by local “Country Representatives”. As national experts, they are responsible for the identification, supervision and evaluation of projects and support the respective project partners with the necessary know-how. Furthermore, it is their task to establish close working relationships with national governments and authorities, NGOs and INGOs and representatives of international organizations.

Jugend Eine Welt – Don Bosco Aktion Österreich is an Austrian NGO which was founded in 1997. Following the principle „Education overcomes poverty“ our organisation supports aid and humanitarian projects in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and Eastern Europe, mostly in close cooperation with the Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB) and the Don Bosco Sisters (FMA) as project partners.

With comprehensive school education and vocational training, Jugend Eine Welt particularly supports disadvantaged children and adolescents, including street children and young refugees, giving them the chance to lead an independent and successful life. In 2017, Jugend Eine Welt funded 102 projects in 32 countries.

LIGHT FOR THE WORLD is an international organisation specialising in inclusive development. Our goal is an inclusive society that is open to all and leaves no one behind. We champion accessible eye care and support inclusive education and basic living conditions conducive to a self-determined life, so that persons with disabilities can participate with equal rights in society. 

LIGHT FOR THE WORLD works closely with local partners, eye clinics and Disabled People’s Organisations. This enables us to apply donations in a targeted, sustainable way, to create lasting structures and pave the way to an inclusive society. 

RED NOSES is one of the largest and leading healthcare clown organisations in the world. Founded in Austria in 1994, we are an artistic organisation bringing humour and laughter so that people in need of joy are better able to reconnect to themselves, each other, and the beauty of all human emotions. We see a great need for emotional wellbeing in the times we are living in, and we are on a mission to change that.

Today, RED NOSES consists of 11 RED NOSES organisations in Central- and Eastern Europe and the Middle East. RED NOSES International, based in Vienna, supports as headquarters the activities of the locally led organisations by monitoring their overall impact, developing new programmes, setting up quality standards, facilitating capacity building activities and ensuring the implementation of the organisation’s strategic goals.

We envision that our major beneficiaries; hospitalised children, senior patients, children with special needs, and people affected by crisis experience an improvement of their overall mental and emotional wellbeing through our artistic and humorous work

Solidarity with people in need does not end at national borders. Therefore, Volkshilfe Solidarität is providing humanitarian aid since 1951 and is active in development cooperation – together with other organizations from the solidar network and local civil society organizations.

Humanitarian Aid
During crises and catastrophes Volkshilfe provides quick, unbureaucratic and efficient support, particularly to vulnerable groups. Besides emergency aid, projects linking relief rehabilitation and development, as well as disaster risk management interventions are supported.

Development Cooperation
Our projects are based on partnership principles with local organizations and contribute to sustainable development using a “helping you help yourself” approach. Volkshilfe is active in education, gender equality, social services as well as support to particularly marginalized groups
